COWRA Shire Council is going to trial synthetic grass on some sites in town. The grass is seen as a substitute to the use of concrete and pavers in some situations.

The product will also be trialled in areas where it has been difficult to grow grass or keep grass looking attractive. One area being considered for the trial is the high foot-traffic area around the skate park in Col Stinson Park.

Other areas considered for trials include traffic blisters and some roundabout surrounds.

In a report presented to council at last week’s committee meetings director of Cowra operations, Wayne Bennett, told council that his staff was spending a large amount of their time repairing various concrete structures. The product being trialled is reportedly a low-maintenance long-lasting alternative to the concrete presently used.

The cost of the new product is comparable to that of concrete and pavers and is designed to give a softer feel to the urban landscape. An area of between 250 and 350 square metres will be trialled to test its durability in the Cowra climate.
